Our Team

Staten Rector, President
Staten is a junior, studying Economics and Politics as well as Ethics, History, and Public Policy. Having interned with various legal and public policy organizations, he brings real-world experience to the policy and law review. His policy and legal interests include criminal-legal issues, civil rights law, and constitutional law. Outside of the policy and law review, he is involved with the Men’s Varsity Swim and Dive Team as well as the Pre-Law Society. He also assists some of his professors with academic research.

Tala Areiqat, Vice President
Tala Areiqat is a senior, studying International Relations and Political Science with a minor in American Politics and Law. Her policy and legal interests include immigration law, employment law, and the ways artificial intelligence challenges legal and regulatory systems. She has conducted research on AI governance and political accountability. Outside of the Policy and Law Review, she enjoys running, photography, and spending time with friends.

Maya Ducker, Editor-in-Chief
Tala Areiqat is a senior, studying International Relations and Political Science with a minor in American Politics and Law. Mirren Hibbert, Marketing Chair
Mirren is a senior, studying International Relations and Political Science with a minor in American Law and Politics. Her policy and legal interests include European Union governance, EU-U.S. relations, and transatlantic diplomacy. Outside of the policy and law review, she is a teaching assistant for several courses and a staff writer for The Tartan.

Dina Ibrahim, Secretary
Dina is a junior, studying International Relations & Political Science, as well as Creative Writing. Her areas of interest include US-Africa relations, Middle Eastern affairs, and domestic regulatory reform. Outside of the policy and law review, she is a board member of CMU’s Model UN Chapter. She is currently conducting research with the Downs Lab on risk behaviors online.

Udi Akolkar, Ambassador
Udi is a sophomore, studying Philosophy as well as International Relations & Political Science. His policy and legal interests are focused on Constitutional law, economic regulation and copyright law, and civil rights law. He has experience working in local government, as well as conducting policy research for non-profit grants. In his free time, he likes to play guitar, tennis, and read.

Lily Qin, Graphic Designer
Lily is a sophomore, studying Information Systems and Human Computer Interaction. Her interests include tech and AI policy. She is also involved in Greek Life, Apex Buggy, and ScottyLabs. She has also done undergraduate research in the HCII on workplace surveillance.
